Nova! Nova!
63 Carols arranged by Louis Halsey
Nova! Nova! represents a significant contribution to the time-honoured tradition of the Christmas carol – a tradition where old melodies and words are sung, collected, adapted, translated, and arranged before being passed on to the next generation, who then make changes of their own. As such the contents of this book will seem at once familiar and new. Composed over many decades, the 63 carols to be found in Nova! Nova! are believed to comprise the largest collection of carols by a single composer. This collection draws together tunes and texts from as far back as medieval times, and from a wide range of cultures – in addition to English carols, there are carols in Latin, German, French, Welsh, and Czech. All carols are scored for mixed-voice (SATB) choir. One third are unaccompanied, and two thirds have accompaniment (for organ or piano). Almost all of the accompanied carols have alternative orchestral arrangements, available from the publisher. There are carols for: the Annunciation, Advent, the Nativity, Holy Innocents, New Year, Twelfth Night, Epiphany, and Eastertide.
